Killin Golf
Club is a picturesque 9 hole course set in the beautiful scenery
of the Perthshire Highlands to the north-east of the National Park.
Often referred to in golf guides and books as a hidden gem
the course claims to have in its 9th hole (par 5) the most scenic
closing hole in Scotland. The glorious setting of Killin at the
start of the beautiful Glen Lochay often gives rise to the joke
that the scenery can be used as an excuse for not keeping your head
down whilst playing. The River Tay sweeps past the first hole and
down into Loch Tay amidst breathtaking views of the mountains and
glens.
Killin Golf
Club was founded in 1911 by a group of dedicated farmers, tradesmen,
merchants and professional people, to provide a golf course for
the community and for summer visitors. They could not have chosen
a more glorious setting for the course, resting as it does at the
start of beautiful Glen Lochay with its river sweeping past the
first fairway to end shortly in Loch Tay. Playing golf in the midst
of such breathtaking scenery is a unique experience. The main structure
of the present Clubhouse dates from 1922 and was build from money
raised locally, one fund raising event of note being a concert given
in Killin by singers from the famous Covent Garden Opera Company
in London. Although now somewhat longer than the original course,
as designed by the Stirling Golf Professional Mr. John Duncan, the
original features still remain - four par 3's, four par 4's and
a par 5 hole often described as the most scenic closing hole in
Scotland. Killin offers the best excuse for not keeping the head
down while playing golf.

From Stirling/Glasgow:
Take the A84 to Lochearnhead, this then becomes the A85 - continue to
Lix Toll.
At Lix Toll garage turn right onto the A827 towards Killin.
Continue through Killin and past the Bridge of Lochay Hotel, over the
bridge and Killin Golf Club is immediately on your right. From
Perth/Pitlochry and the East Coast:
Take the A9 and turn onto the A827 at Ballinluig.
Follow the signs to Aberfeldy, and then continue towards Kenmore.
At Kenmore continue along the A827 towards Killin.
Not long after entering Stirling county you will see the golf course
on your left, the entrance is on your left at the bottom of the hill.

The 9th/18th
hole is generally considered to be one of the most scenic closing
holes of any course in Scotland. At any time of year the colours
and views are spectacular and it is a perfect way to complete
a round. From the front tees it is a challenging 504 yards (stroke
index 9/10). An initial drive takes the player slightly left onto
an undulating fairway with rough and trees lying in wait on the
right for the wayward. The main Aberfeldy road lies in wait if
you slice your tee shot, so keep to the left. A second strike
up the narrow fairway will bring you up to a green guarded by
twin bunkers that await the shot to the green. A great testing
hole at any time of the year.

Players at
Killin always remember this short but challenging hole.
There is out of bounds to the right, the wall in front of the
green and bunkers left, right and to the rear of the sloping green.
It has been known for players to play their second shot from the
top of the wall! Although tricky, if played correctly a par, birdie
or even an eagle is possible.
A demanding
tee shot with trouble to the right in the form of out of bounds
and a tree lined track. To find the green is the least of the
problems at this difficult hole. Hit the ball through the green
and more trouble can be found. Once on the green many a scorecard
has been ruined with frustrating putting on the fast and sloping
green.

"The
Gully" 4th par 4, si 1/2, 351 yds.
Hit a tee
shot up the hill slightly to the left of the marker, this should
then place you in a good position for the second blind shot to
the green. The green is guarded by a bunker to the front and a
grass bunker to catch those long shots at the rear of the green.
This hole is tough, but a birdie is possible.
